Is 916 gold the same as 22K?
The terms are commonly paired in jewellery, but the labels are not mathematically identical: 22/24 is about 91.67%, while 916 denotes 916 parts of gold per thousand. Confirm the fineness on the item and invoice and check current BIS requirements.
Who decides the gold rate in India?
No single authority sets every shop's board rate. Global bullion prices, currency, duties, local supply and the seller's pricing all contribute. IBJA publishes a separate benchmark; a retail board can differ from it.
Why do different websites show different gold rates?
Publishers can use different inputs, locations, product definitions and update times. We show the selected sites side by side with the collection time and any effective-date limitation so you can inspect the spread yourself.
Why is jewellery made from 22K and not 24K gold?
Very high-purity gold is comparatively soft, so many jewellery designs use an alloy such as 22K for durability. Product design and local practice vary; compare the purity stated on the item with the rate used on the bill.
What extra costs come on top of the gold rate?
A bill may add making charges, wastage or value-addition, fixed charges, stones and other item-specific lines. The calculator applies the current verified GST registry rule to the modelled transaction and remains an estimate from the inputs you provide.
How do I check my jewellery is real hallmarked gold?
Where mandatory hallmarking applies, use the current verified BIS checklist on the 916 guide and verify the HUID in the BIS Care app. BIS lists exemptions for some jewellers, districts and articles, so use its current guidance for the item.
